First a confession - I haven't seen the new blockbuster yet but I was struck by a review I heard yesterday. The reporter, David Wright of ABC News talked about its "message of unity ... a group of talented primadonnas overcome their differences to defeat a common foe." and I thought what a wonderful working definition for our rag tag group of interfaith clergy. It can serve us as not only a definition but also as call. We work to overcome our differences to defeat MANY common foes - hunger, homelessness, poverty, war, ecological devastation, apathy, isolation, and the list will go on.
So my fellow clergy, let's take on the name - Avengers! - and unite to support each other and defeat our common foes for the good of those we serve and for our God!
